We both love looking for bargains. Well, Amber was digging through a bin and found this bag of fabric scraps. (At least I thought that's what they were). She said, "Mom, you might want this." For $.99 cents, I said, "Sure!" When I got home, and opened the package, I realized that I had the makings for a quilt. Some of the 9 patch blocks were already done. I think whoever gave it to Goodwill had become frustrated because they had taken too big of seams. I didn't mind taking them out and redoing for $.99! I added fabric from my stash and bought a little more of the cream fabric. I call this my $.99 Plus a Little Quilt. These fabrics are unmatchable in our quilt shops today. There were so many beautiful quilts!! This year the theme of the quilt show was the Wonder of Nature. There was a challenge for the quilt guild members to make a 20 x 20 inch quilt that had to do with nature. There were several categories that we drew from a hat at one of our guild meetings. I drew "water". We had to construct a quilt using that theme. There could be only things in nature put into the quilt. This is the quilt that I entered and I WON!! I hand appliqued all the parts of the fish, and the other parts of the scene. I used the "eyelash" yarn to make the sea anemone look more realistic. I used beads and sequins to give the water and coral shimmering effects. And beaded the center of the sea anemone. It was a fun project! I was very surprised and elated that mine won!!</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC8BOoW7KUVYp65xYRvj0IJM4qrYpOWl93L4-_7-ft4aMdFqQ2vq8f-0y8C_QFIrPSSVLMmPdfu0uSLFdHcnLaBi3VfoMDKl63NJSrlggbT5Pe8lz9fD67_7U9pkbuiiDq_18KhogA2mAC/s320/Under+the+Sea.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5665613099099004722" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 272px; " /></span></div><div><div style="text-align: left;">I also won 2nd and 3rd place for my quilts in the lap quilt category. My contributions to the quilt are the "laundry" block and the "basket" block. I have all seven blocks of each one done. Can you tell that I am excited about this quilt? You will find the pictures of my blocks below. I have the border ready and waiting as well.<br /><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglXC5wwRL-d3wa9wtBdKKgFC0PfdxS_Y-pG8Yr8wAYfaMV-uvrAG2W7vxezPmnJTK9Bbx_8_Rwnzs-K7Kg8iY1S8APGybSGsKKQH4r_nPdCmUURJqVci2YdeURbQ3AOX_4ycrO81Af0Bd4/s320/Spring+Remembered.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607809153863633058" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 305px; height: 320px; " /></span></div><div><div style="text-align: left;">Below is a picture of the borders that I have ready and waiting for the quilt to be put together so I can add them. It is my assignment for the "Spring Remembered" quilt for our retreat in the fall. I decided to do the embroidery in spring colors rather than black. I added some lazy daisy flowers to the embroidery. I loved the tiny clothes pins. I wanted them to look realistic, so I made a small buttonhole on the block where I wanted each clothespin to go. This way I can remove them for laundering when I need to. I just need to remember not to quilt over them when I am doing my quilting. </div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5NxcdDyno6QtwCKY6qQSuPE8-HJMdLQ8jYk19cE08SrwvCHuAHwbanJ7w0ksKE9UkgiuQx-XZanIcqEGcAle6Nofwwwhcsah05OIcWMS_hlQrsTvci6Ovik-k2Nv0w7cJcv8REnPpq-Cu/s320/Laurndry+Block.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607807864973164210" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></span></div><div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; ">I really like how the "basket" block turned out. We met in Provo on Wednesday the 6th of April. I drove from Farmington, NM and the others came from Shelley and Montpelier, ID. Those who attended were Jill Wray, Debbie Searle, Mary Hobson and Ilene Kendrick. We missed having Dana Searle and Ann Ahrendsen with us. Our family just didn't seem complete!! Hope you guys will be able to come to our next one!!</div><div><br /></div><div>Debbie kicked her son and new wife out of their house in order for us o stay there. We kept them supplied with good food, so hopefully they will forgive the intrusion!! Below is a picture of the living room BEFORE we moved our stuff in. Bet you can't wait to see the after shot, right?</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh80XM3b-PY5I_BHdzOUG24wf1h-80LnkdQe4eAvubpqd1_AR4bEjCtBlftIqeVn6auGR-WJnw7k96khumQrEsEZtYbgSXgTg5AQz5CtzWf-MuDu_kcRqMqL9g_5opSnfDS_23wbtIj6sFL/s1600/after.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh80XM3b-PY5I_BHdzOUG24wf1h-80LnkdQe4eAvubpqd1_AR4bEjCtBlftIqeVn6auGR-WJnw7k96khumQrEsEZtYbgSXgTg5AQz5CtzWf-MuDu_kcRqMqL9g_5opSnfDS_23wbtIj6sFL/s320/after.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600726332470310130" /></a>Well, here we are all moved in. I am always wanting to do something miniature! :o)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2P08Bg3E5F8e6VutB6z2WRO8zH3sRDWRuBtHG-5fbfaQ2rSnv_DPUadVlZA16GjRZoumrvmH38nF1PWaJFszXaZ7POl7v_6DffMqxL40LPeMM0hJXE_-ZqymJI0TgRnaBMqOB7OrH-2sM/s1600/Calendar+Keeper+April.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 237px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2P08Bg3E5F8e6VutB6z2WRO8zH3sRDWRuBtHG-5fbfaQ2rSnv_DPUadVlZA16GjRZoumrvmH38nF1PWaJFszXaZ7POl7v_6DffMqxL40LPeMM0hJXE_-ZqymJI0TgRnaBMqOB7OrH-2sM/s320/Calendar+Keeper+April.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578180208476502770" /></a><br /></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-78462555001357556622011-02-18T10:34:00.000-08:002011-02-22T06:27:16.419-08:00Finishing up the UFO's and making NEW Stuff!<div style="text-align: left;">This has been a long time in coming! Can you tell that I am loving my Long Arm? :o)</div><div><br /></div><div>Below is what I have titled Sunlight and Shadows. These blocks were from a swap that we did in 2009. The criteria of the swap was this; the birthday person chose the block that they wanted made and included instructions on the colors that were to be used in the block. I chose this blcok because I loved the contrast of lights and darks. The blocks came from Australia, Denmark, Canada and states scattered across the US. Look what I got for Christmas!!! My dream came true on December 24th. Roger took me out to our "Hobby Shop" and there it was all set up for me. While we were gone to Midland, Texas. He had given the keys to the Bernina shop here in Farmington and they came and set this up. I have done a couple of table toppers on it and now this bigger quilt. I am not a pro yet, but getting the hang of Long Arm quilting!! What a shocking surprise!! Dana was so gracious to let us use her cabin, again!! Since we moved to New Mexico, I was very anxious to get to Idaho and start having SEW much fun!! I arrived in Idaho on Sunday and had to wait clear until Wednesday to get to our retreat. I kept my time filled with Grandkids, visiting my quilting buddy, Ilene. I even got to go to our Idaho quilt group!!</div><div><br /></div><div>When we arrived at Dana's cabin, a truck with 2 guys pulled up and asked us if we were having a "girls" weekend. Excitedly we said , "YES"! Then they proceeded to tell us that they were having a "guys" weekend in a cabin down the road! YIKES!! BOLT THE DOORS!!! Then when we went on a walk one day, a guy was standing at his cabin and commented on the nice day that it was. We agreed, because it WAS very beautiful!! Then he said, "Do you want to go out?" We talked, sewed, ate, sewed, shared, and sewed some more! We shared a lot and got a lot of projects done. I will try to remember some of the things that we completed. I need to take MORE pictures. I was in such awe of all that was accomplished that I simply forgot to get my camera out, except for a few. I will try to do better next time! I would love it if everyone would take pictures of their projects and email them to me. I really want to add every picture that I can to remember this fun time!!<div><br /><div>I will start alphabetically and try to remember what everyone did.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Ann</b>: Ann completed her corn row for our Bountiful Harvest quilt. It was my fault she didn't finish sooner because of a pattern error. Then, she made the cutest bag for her daughter. Then she started on some skirts for her daughters. The fabric was AWESOME!! Lucky, Lucky Daughters!!</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Dana</b>: Dana, as usual, had her sewing machine going a mile a minute. She had a project to complete for Wood Badge. The project she chose was to make a quilt with the different US flags in it. She put a description under each flag and then set it together with big stars. The quilt and Dana are below. This will look so wonderful hanging in her home or cabin. Then she made the cutest scripture bag. Then of course.... Dana made aprons for Christmas. I'm sure there is something I forgot!</div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkNTUEP-nGnDW7moEp6vgQbUCjaoi2JS0ym0MCG7F12DQEIIuHDfh2OQBU900z5svKINzM-DbDf5OLjnBVZSOGQRBHQSQ0MgQ5FhMIk36e12ziYTwNnahOTYh22ZxJ4LVytX7z-hogZsh6/s320/Dana+Flag+Quilt.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532477402046268434" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 265px; height: 320px; " /></span></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" ><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Debbie: </b>Debbie was a WHIR of activity. I can't believe all that she did! She is doing the 12 days of Christmas for her family this year. What a lucky family!! She was working on costumes to portray the Nativity. Then she was making Christmas stockings for each family. She also showed finished table runners that she started last retreat. I am sure that I am forgetting something!</div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "></span><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Ilene</b>: Ilene got into her "use it up" mode. If you look closely at the apron she is wearing, you will see that it is made from a table cloth! She made 2 aprons from tablecloths and started making a bag from a table cloth as well. She also put together a purple, black and white quilt for her granddaughter. Isn't that apron just the CUTEST!!! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4XzbFLUEGrZr5LJuAIbarC-l1jwMrGiXI2p_BdKw6ozKVMsY6OGhtSaEKF0F4AfR_b4gk7QAyCicIEC0Lji3VeJbvLnLheTT72H3syjljweUozrAcJJvm5iuCYWdz1Yf613tleyzYHESv/s320/Ilene+Apron+from+Tablecloth.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532477407981205394" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px; " /></div><div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Mary</b>: Mary finished up a bag she had started for her daughter. The colors were absolutely beautiful. She made it using a charm pack. I'm thinking her daughter will be ecstatic! Then, she made the cutest quilt top for a baby boy. Again.... I wish I had pictures of everything. (I am kicking myself right now!) </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Susan</b>: I made a pumpkin/flying geese table topper that I saw in a magazine. I also had blocks from a birthday swap that I put together. Both of these still need borders. I just need to figure out just the right borders for both. Then, I embroidered on our Bountiful Harvest quilt blocks. Pictures will follow when I get these completed... :0)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">This is our bountiful harvest quilt. I LOVE IT!!! Each section was made by a different person. I had to come right home and finish it! It fit together perfectly!! All of the sayings are hand embroidered. This quilt will be cherished forever!!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 297px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZW1L6tAtlk2V63DOE8bIyVepNFjzWzSVpuQflnoxba2g3PlOa_qubzMVfXytxATYRvB6BQXyYMARUEfSeAWeohrS14UIpA4ORaqogExLYmKqv5s4ybiBsz_ffZnuaLjNPFhIJ0aUFX2bd/s320/Bountiful+Harvest+Quilt.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532477398699335074" /><div style="text-align: left;">The food was like eating gormet every day! I have been hand quilting it since before we moved here. I finished everything but the outer border and decided I had had enough! I took it to my sewing machine and quilted the outer border using the free motion method. <div><br /></div><div>I really love how she turned out. It is getting there! The picture you see is from the doorway looking in. You can see 2 windows (at least the hole and one window). The other window is where you can see the reflection on the floor. The studded area will be a food storage area and whatever can be stored there. There is plenty of room above the store room to store things. I'm sure Roger will find lots of stuff to go up there. Maybe I can store my large batting pieces?</div><div><br /></div><div>I am ready to move in! But I don't think that would be appropriate just yet. There is insulation to put in the ceiling and sheet rock and insulation to put in the storage room. More sheet rock and peg board to go on the big room and then the carpet. </div><div><br /></div><div>Roger and his brother Kim and nephew Obid has worked hard to get it this far. I am so appreciative!! I am going to hang my quilts as decoration. It will be fun to have my own space! :o)</div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-2418819429853256752010-09-07T11:04:00.000-07:002010-09-07T11:11:31.519-07:00I MISS HIM!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKa0Rfh3ymNSOW0JiGDesi2pzHCmI6c8SufwZ3ZEiikXlTHsN89x5BnpwViiVDThN5O8_VjNRDJeUw64QwcYa9mFHkQrvFwqvQmfov_dalfZPRfkDOmqk-9cjWue6JCDiTHKI4uN_T8yJo/s1600/Caleb+Reunion+june+2009.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKa0Rfh3ymNSOW0JiGDesi2pzHCmI6c8SufwZ3ZEiikXlTHsN89x5BnpwViiVDThN5O8_VjNRDJeUw64QwcYa9mFHkQrvFwqvQmfov_dalfZPRfkDOmqk-9cjWue6JCDiTHKI4uN_T8yJo/s320/Caleb+Reunion+june+2009.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5514234668543158946" /></a>Yesterday was my oldest son Caleb's birthday. They were all there; very crowded, but they were in their nest. Then a couple of hours later, Roger (DH) said to come and look! The babies were all out of their nest and Mama and Papa Robin were in a tizzy! When we went close to take their pictures, the little birds were as still as statues. They didn't even blink an eye. We finally decided that we had better leave them alone and let them learn to fly. The last we checked, they were all safe in a tree with Mama and Papa standing guard. I hope they learn to fly before the neighbors cat gets them. It has been a FUN experience watching them.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYSFVShj3agqpJrO6IlwpU-yA6E5Ypt38uYtJR9HTmpxv9cO3kSdjk68FNmgqNce0nko7-76fQen-SIv0r5keV5m3IeG9X5sx6-NOA_YNkpR5dxrk1q013AqyuR_hbg28FsoJIQXPA8CeR/s1600/Baby+3.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 228px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 245px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482817119058514418" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYSFVShj3agqpJrO6IlwpU-yA6E5Ypt38uYtJR9HTmpxv9cO3kSdjk68FNmgqNce0nko7-76fQen-SIv0r5keV5m3IeG9X5sx6-NOA_YNkpR5dxrk1q013AqyuR_hbg28FsoJIQXPA8CeR/s320/Baby+3.jpg" /></a> Baby Robin #1<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtsYktyisBj9IrXYtV_KJ7NKTFkh5foO7Kx4Vck1j3Kv8rH_PNULtgYZYP7nIwPS4ULQl9CjFrx12geQLRwptRjFcusiD0EJuNO-mCy0-VUOBTG6lBXO4T4oNQpdgmO0DWMLAQuPU9XCQx/s1600/Baby+2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 275px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 285px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482817104856938354" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtsYktyisBj9IrXYtV_KJ7NKTFkh5foO7Kx4Vck1j3Kv8rH_PNULtgYZYP7nIwPS4ULQl9CjFrx12geQLRwptRjFcusiD0EJuNO-mCy0-VUOBTG6lBXO4T4oNQpdgmO0DWMLAQuPU9XCQx/s320/Baby+2.jpg" /></a> Baby Robin #2<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguyQJ1DAKlPedhZMFjhACNUpenigS82Ne22NbYoFGsXSDlexNi38A0hAo3i8iqmZb6d45ScQQcLWYd2FYmJ4fytGznsPAOrvXW8NdrRcZZCWui0k8KfgFmUoGjWPPz0LFsJpMtBMPBxbqH/s1600/Baby+1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 283px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482817099704239314" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguyQJ1DAKlPedhZMFjhACNUpenigS82Ne22NbYoFGsXSDlexNi38A0hAo3i8iqmZb6d45ScQQcLWYd2FYmJ4fytGznsPAOrvXW8NdrRcZZCWui0k8KfgFmUoGjWPPz0LFsJpMtBMPBxbqH/s320/Baby+1.jpg" /></a>Baby Robin #3<br /><br /><br /><div></div></div><br /></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-64452992030285783162010-06-13T15:05:00.000-07:002010-06-13T15:37:49.251-07:00The Robin FamilyThis spring a nest was in the process of being built on our electricity meter on the back of our house. For some time we didn't know what kind of bird was building the nest. We watched and waited to see who the tenant would be. To our pleasant surprise, it was a Robin! Finally her nest was finished. Then the eggs were laid. Mrs. Robin sat on her nest hour by hour. She would fly when we opened the door to go out on our deck, but soon she was comfortable with us being there. We could almost walk up to her nest without her moving. It was fun watching her sit there. We were anticipating being able to see the new little feather balls that would hatch.<br /><br />One weekend we were gone for three days. When we returned and went out in our backyard, Mrs. Robin was very agitated! She would fly at us; just skimming the tops of our head. The thought came to me that maybe her eggs had hatched, but we couldn't really see anything in the nest. But she was still VERY agitated when we even walked out the door. <br /><br />A couple of days later, a carefully polked my head outside the door and sure enough, there was Mrs. Robin standing by her nest and three little beaks were high in the air. She was feeding them. (Wish I had my camera then!)<br /><br />Today, Mrs. Robin is still agitated. Below is a picture of her just before she flew right at me! She was posed on the roof just above her babies.<br /><p align="left"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 318px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 299px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482383323618441730" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5nIY1XAbJZwmY635uF7MI64I6N1kNi8fltlieIhtE4XgUcekgIEHk2yUA06zyGAgcdtiLZe7_4FrVvnW2-7z8uFQ3OJxAq0hN6Yu3MfYkkZLtNJDhi1DYXuUlyu2mucok5u5A1ZvtULYG/s320/ready+to+attack.jpg" /></p><p align="left">She then flew on her nest several times, but I didn't have my camera ready. FINALLY, I was ready! Here is a family photo. The little ones are interested in eating. Mama is interested in ME moving away from her little ones!! You can see them reaching up to her. The next shot is an "I WANT FOOD" shot. Their beaks are fully open and ready!</p><p align="left"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 271px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 288px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482383573028666370" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPSAC7a26m46fE_zFF5knSJ4jQ08ollQKcCRzZuXK0cveYHeYlGUv6kpjelG83EvhoyslghCZPeLPdL2_fd9zlUIwjScV0D0_oVgM1hLPWGmFbs_GSYf2rG-CpuYu89LCKnWq8kwxx-RD/s320/the+family.jpg" /></p><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 305px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 292px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5482383318059851122" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj3nUTa8EQ-NUyyzkw3oIHPA6WgdTf4AHMfSQ2xLkZuC4aRuiL_Xd2LqL9WqQWGUJxvcgMhxxBHNsUQW3i8P07Epe9s57NuyYuordd7tHPNG6c5piK7Az8swEezXcVoQmSzpheR8gQrYV6/s320/Mother+and+babies.jpg" /><br />Here is just a shot of the babies in their nest. I live in Idaho. The pictures you see are of ELEPHANTS not COWS grazing in a farm field. Roger (my sweetheart of 39 years) and I were driving yesterday and saw these three elephants grazing in a pasture. This would be a common scene in, oh let's say AFRICA, but absolutely not in IDAHO!! I am glad that I take my camera with me wherever I go. This was definitely worth the shot. Who woulda thunk it... elephants in IDAHO! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidyPv0urBXcdDejv3s5H-R40n7pyuNuHu2MlY5ah0oDByqT00kyklTdkqeUiAFTnmpAC6VjsEzS7BU4uww2LkgQ1Bc6csXYSeZ5c8Lv_lfu8OgYfs_roxbRa4mxAEq1RLhIyGsFEBLG6jj/s1600/elephant+2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481561129688624978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidyPv0urBXcdDejv3s5H-R40n7pyuNuHu2MlY5ah0oDByqT00kyklTdkqeUiAFTnmpAC6VjsEzS7BU4uww2LkgQ1Bc6csXYSeZ5c8Lv_lfu8OgYfs_roxbRa4mxAEq1RLhIyGsFEBLG6jj/s320/elephant+2.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk_HjhyppI3zhHwLaxav1-k_Kv_krwYR0OvdbEd65qmjvvYfqjH5UheoQ2_4ML8yrIb7AJNjHfsD7bHeJEnMFFIuD2cMefKRYN8yD-N6wWB_EZFYFhcpSX4_RXTArgYPCykay5fLZyzgJR/s1600/elephant+1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481561125274484802" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk_HjhyppI3zhHwLaxav1-k_Kv_krwYR0OvdbEd65qmjvvYfqjH5UheoQ2_4ML8yrIb7AJNjHfsD7bHeJEnMFFIuD2cMefKRYN8yD-N6wWB_EZFYFhcpSX4_RXTArgYPCykay5fLZyzgJR/s320/elephant+1.jpg" /></a><br /><div> </div></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-11396709769051512512010-06-11T09:33:00.000-07:002010-06-11T09:54:19.931-07:00Promise of SpringOkay, just wondering? Does anyone ever deminish their scrap pile? It is if they are fertilized and grow beyond belief! If only my flowers would grow so good! <br />I saw a quilt that truly inspired me to use up more of this growing pile of scraps. I loved the applique strips that separated the scraps. The one I saw was different applique, but I truly loved the idea! It has been unspringlike (a word I am sure!) here in Idaho. I thought that if I couldn't have birds and flowers outside, I would bring them in! I drew the birds, flowers and leaves and made applique patterns for them and then added the vine. This quilt I appropriately names; Promise of Spring. As you can see I used up a lot of my 2 1/2 inch scraps. But.... there is still a ton more! Hopefully, I have stumbled on to another idea. I am still formulating that one in my mind. I think it will be AWESOME. Stay tuned..... :o)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgorzofbG-9CqZYBoE7I-URXmR3dXTpfKpyFha_PQ5aHTPnxmtASbHq2g0XQMaUx1D0NZh9W_6CNa39ALdtirjak5rr69lGKbSxylqtUIEB83HR4uVSAGj5J8gozaQhuN_m7-n75_UP3mh3/s1600/Promise+of+Spring.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481558098443445298" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgorzofbG-9CqZYBoE7I-URXmR3dXTpfKpyFha_PQ5aHTPnxmtASbHq2g0XQMaUx1D0NZh9W_6CNa39ALdtirjak5rr69lGKbSxylqtUIEB83HR4uVSAGj5J8gozaQhuN_m7-n75_UP3mh3/s320/Promise+of+Spring.jpg" /></a>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-12200617745218610652010-05-16T18:36:00.001-07:002010-05-16T18:43:12.951-07:00Finished Christmas QuiltIt is finished! This is the quilt from our April quilt retreat. I really love how this turned out. It will be fun to bring it out at Christmas. Of course, I can always improve on my quilting skills, but needless to say, I DID learn some things. Thank you so much to Ann, Dana, Debbie, Ilene, Jill and Mary. I can hardly wait until the Fall Retreat and see how this quilt will come together. <br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZVjRcj_sZ9Nvw_42cqMKxt5tmZLWGJVhjOleLS4_tV2zx04xVv0thl5IwxY2vYjRkr16HVie7BHJoIQ0TWtqa-xl4tG6LLSA2hkCxnLeRzXFzLZAhEHZaFNoAAPHN190eOx8liDTg92vq/s1600/DSCN0013.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472047658480553858" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZVjRcj_sZ9Nvw_42cqMKxt5tmZLWGJVhjOleLS4_tV2zx04xVv0thl5IwxY2vYjRkr16HVie7BHJoIQ0TWtqa-xl4tG6LLSA2hkCxnLeRzXFzLZAhEHZaFNoAAPHN190eOx8liDTg92vq/s320/DSCN0013.JPG" /></a><br /><div></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-33044958059563232792010-05-16T18:27:00.000-07:002010-05-16T18:36:32.285-07:00Beautiful Granddaughter<div><div>I was so happy to have Ashley stop by the other night. We had one last year and it was so much fun that we had another one this year. Well, it doesn't end there.... We are going to have a Fall Retreat in October!! There were 6 of us that attended. Debbie was so gracious and allowed us to stay in her cabin at Island Park, ID. Dana let us stay at her cabin last year. We will be staying at Dana's cabin again in the Fall. This is who attended. Here is a picture of theChristmas Quilt that we made. It is from Cotton Way and is called "The Twelve Rows of Christmas. This on is mine. I haven't got the borders on and it is not quilted, YET. My goal is to have it ready to show at next retreat in October. Each row was done by one of us and then multiplied times seven! We all went to the bedroom and laid out each row. OH WHAT FUN to see each row revealed!! I am so excited to have a Christmas quilt to display for Christmas and remember my quilting friends. Dana made a label for each of us to put on the back. SWEET!!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3X3qIBJ1sGgZdPisNCzta_gMAHPERNU-wGi6WBY8ALs-DzUnmEK06afrENUbA8Eb_BJMNWzb8oXbawGXOrPs5g1IFIcJ1R9Fp4x5cdi76s9aXhHsN9IJtiWa5uhZXzaQzlf5yvKhNPYLW/s1600/Mary+Log+Cabin.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464863267804957778" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3X3qIBJ1sGgZdPisNCzta_gMAHPERNU-wGi6WBY8ALs-DzUnmEK06afrENUbA8Eb_BJMNWzb8oXbawGXOrPs5g1IFIcJ1R9Fp4x5cdi76s9aXhHsN9IJtiWa5uhZXzaQzlf5yvKhNPYLW/s320/Mary+Log+Cabin.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>Here is a picture of Mary who finished this log cabin quilt top. Cute fabric and WONDERFUL job!!!<br /><br />If you look to the right of Dana's quilt, (the yellow, blue and green one). This is one of the projects that Ilene was working on. LOVE, LOVE it!! It is from Lori Holt's "Comforts of Home" She gives so much detail on her applique. I will definitely do more of her stuff. I personalized it just for us. The house number is ours and if you look closely at the tree there is a special carving. :o) I learned an applique trick from a sweet lady in our quilt group. Thank you, Julie for teaching us how to use glue and freezer paper to make the perfect applique!! I and stitched all of the pieces. The border is flying geese. I really like the versatility of placing flying geese in different ways to achieve and awesome border. The quilting is free motion. I should have used a same color thread. Oh well, shoulda, coulda. It's done and I am mostly satisfied with it..... This will hang above our bed in our bedroom. <div align="left"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtnMutj5QP2dtaOQ48wE3CL75ALr3qdMMyKfI_Dc2qLTNqBkBEN2ySlUm8C3WHiOa0eI-EahOgn-igO8IehwctSU9vvSt3fHQwIhNoEa6ccHtXwqMvq5fb5HNrjoq5shrpUzdC_3-KppfW/s1600/DSCN0224.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464844400500097858" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtnMutj5QP2dtaOQ48wE3CL75ALr3qdMMyKfI_Dc2qLTNqBkBEN2ySlUm8C3WHiOa0eI-EahOgn-igO8IehwctSU9vvSt3fHQwIhNoEa6ccHtXwqMvq5fb5HNrjoq5shrpUzdC_3-KppfW/s320/DSCN0224.JPG" /></a></div><div> </div><div> </div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414984371938659941.post-9953710612887959352010-04-26T07:09:00.000-07:002010-04-26T07:41:23.755-07:00A Fresh Start<div><div>Okay.... I have not blogged for SO long that I can't remember my password, login email, etc, etc. I used to blog at quiltingforless.blogspot.com, but I can't seem to log in to add a post. What the hey!! Why have I waited so long?? I know, it's my fault, but who says we can't forget our past and start anew? :o)</div><div></div><br /><div>It will take a long time to catch up to where I was, but for now, I will start with where I am. Sounds like a plan? </div><div></div><br /><div>As time goes on, I will hopefully add some posts of interest. Well, at least interesting to MOI!! (Interpereted "Me"... I did take a few years of French...)</div><div></div><br /><div>As you will find out, I have a passion for quilting. Lately I have been putting these teeny tiny little pieces together to make a miniture Lonestar quilt. I went to a guild meeting the other night and was so inspired by Sally Collins. She does such beautiful work!! Her quilts look like tapestry, but a closer look tells you that she is a very precise piecer and quilter. I was in AWE!! </div><br /><div></div><div>Here is my first attempt at one of these miniature quiltis. This is my Lonestar quilt. Although, not perfect, I am striving for "THAT" perfection!! I have placed a pen on the quilt so that you may see a size orientation.</div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfZZKZLNZ8u1zXSpxIndfuBhOUh0SzhZGO-5z7v_s3bJ2B3VErcOwwAe3Kvx_OpJfP38l7StcthW8MAubSx1um9GRqCKUDRwhd0r6VgV3VFpra36WDryrYND2tD7s6SJHmQegPlkTqU6TB/s1600/Miniature+Lonestar.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 299px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464455918132535906" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfZZKZLNZ8u1zXSpxIndfuBhOUh0SzhZGO-5z7v_s3bJ2B3VErcOwwAe3Kvx_OpJfP38l7StcthW8MAubSx1um9GRqCKUDRwhd0r6VgV3VFpra36WDryrYND2tD7s6SJHmQegPlkTqU6TB/s320/Miniature+Lonestar.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div></div>Susanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00164199227691730368noreply@blogger.com0
